Black Shire Distillery Tasting Room Bartender

Part Time: 20 to 30 hours per week

We are looking for high-energy bartenders with a love of craft spirits to join the team at Black Shire Distillery. Black Shire is an artisan distillery that is growing rapidly. Our team is small and everyone has the opportunity to contribute on many levels, from cocktail development to giving tours.

At our on-farm distillery tasting room as well as our tasting room in town, Black Shire bartenders are expected to greet customers, learn about their preferences, answer questions about the distillery and our portfolio, and prepare and serve spirit tastings and cocktails. While working at the distillery tasting room, bartenders will handle tastings for tour groups and also offer distillery tours to patrons on a set schedule. Our bartenders are also responsible for opening and closing the bar, handling transactions and cleaning as needed. 

Bartender Responsibilities:

  • Welcoming customers, listening to people to determine beverage preferences, making recommendations, and taking drink orders.

  • Understanding the history of Hermann Farm and taking patrons on distillery tours when working at the farm tasting room.

  • Checking identification to ensure customers are the legal age.

  • Adhering to all food safety and quality regulations.

  • Handling cash, credit, and debit card transactions, ensuring charges are accurate and returning correct change to patrons, balancing the cash register.

  • Maintaining a clean work and dining area by removing trash, cleaning tables, and washing glasses, utensils, and equipment.

  • Developing new cocktail recipes in partnership with our tasting room manager.

  • Working events as needed, including spirit releases, dinners, tastings and other special events.

Bartender Requirements:

  • High school diploma.

  • Meets state minimum age to serve alcohol.

  • Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays.

  • Positive, engaging personality, and professional appearance.

  • Basic math and computer skills.

  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Strong task and time management abilities.

  • Eye for detail and understanding of drink mixing tools and techniques.

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, etc for extended periods, and lift up to 25 lbs.
